Getting Your Site More Highly Ranked

One vital aspect of your sites optimisation is to ensure the search engines deem it important. 'Website ranking' is the technical term.

The easiest way to understand how well you are thought of is to download the Google toolbar and accept the terms for showing 'page rank' - now it is worth bearing in mind that although google ranks every page of your site (that it finds) 'page rank' is named after Larry Page, one of the co-founders of Google rather than a general term to say it likes to rank pages.

Once you install this toolbar and turn on page rank, you will easily see how each page ranks based upon Google's opinions. Although this is fallible, it is an interesting way to see how you rank. Page rank is one of the criteria Google uses to decide where your website shows in the overall results for any given keyword.

You could also look at Alexa which gives a ranking for different sites traffic each day compared to others. To get listed in the top 1000 is quite a result and shows you have a popular site.
